India marks 50 years of Vijay Diwas

Swarnim Vijay Diwas 

India marks 50 years Swarnim Vijay Diwas on 16th December. The victory of India Pakistan war in 1971 and remember the brave heroes and their sacrifices to their motherland. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered the 1971 war and called it the “Golden chapter in India’s Military History”.

Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 was between India and Pakistan occurred due to the “Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan”. The Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan has started based on language movement in1950, Mass Riots in East Bengal in 1964, Mass protests in1969 all these led East Pakistan to take over Government by Army Chief.  

On 27th March 1971 PM, Indira Gandhi has expressed full support for the Independence of East Pakistan. Chief of the Army Staff General Sam Manekshaw and his troop have defected from the Pakistan Army. The Pakistan Army has surrendered to the Indian Army Forces.

Instrument of surrender

The war started on 3rd December 1971 to 16th December 1971. During 13 days of the war, India gained upper hand and resulted in the Instrument of Surrender. After World War II, this was the largest military surrender. It is estimated that 93,000 Pakistan soldiers were taken prisoners by the Indian Army.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and India President Kovind

On 16th December 1971, Bangladesh has officially has become a new Nation. This day is observed as “Bijoy Dibos” and the birth centenary of Bangladesh Founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. President Kovind travelled to Bangladesh to attend Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Dhaka on 16th December. 

PM Modi lit Eternal Flame 

Last year PM Modi, lit the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal from the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial with four flames in different directions, then these flames traversed across the length and breadth of the country. Today, these four flames will be merged with the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial by PM Modi.

PM Modi tweeted “On this Special day of Vijay Diwas, I had the Honour of paying my respects at the National War Memorial and merging into the Eternal flames, the four Vijay Mashaals which traversed across the length and breadth of the country for last one year”.
